World Series Final Game Draws 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete American average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 different languages.
